Details: Training will be delivered live via webinar for the contractor network and will also be recorded for future reference. The recorded sessions will be divided into short, 3–5 minute modules that contractors can use for training or as a quick reference in the field.

Two presentations will be provided: one covering fire hazards and the other focusing on indoor air quality. Each session will run about 25 minutes and will be held during the EmPower+ monthly contractor network meetings, typically on the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. ET.

The upcoming sessions are scheduled for October 3 and November 7, 2025.

Additional Don’t Be Left Exposed – Spray Foam Training

Details: Numerous contractors have contacted Program staff regarding the need for an additional Don’t Be Left Exposed training. NYSERDA has scheduled one last live training for September 26th, Part 1 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and Part 2 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. ET. This training is required for all spray foam contractors as part of the certification requirements.

This is a reminder for Participating Contractors installing spray foam through EmPower+ or Comfort Home. NYSERDA is requiring training for individuals working on spray foam projects to be completed no later than October 1, 2025. A list of the required training for Field Employees, Applicators, Crew Leaders, and Auditors can be found on the contractor support site at https://hpwescontractorsupport.com/program-resources/sprayfoamresources/.

Contractors are required to keep documentation of the trainings, including the training title, staff names, and dates the training was completed.

Contractors will need to submit a signed attestation verifying their company meets the new training requirements. This attestation form can be found at https://hpwescontractorsupport.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Spray-Foam-Training-Requirements-Contractor-Acknowledgement-Form.pdf. Once completed, contractors can submit it to support.residential@nyserda.ny.gov.

On May 3, 2024, Program provided an overview of the upcoming Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) offering. It is expected that the funding through the early enablement section of the IRA Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) Program will be available in late May or early June; however, these dates remain tentative. If you missed the webinar, you can access it, along with a frequently asked questions document, here.  

The webinar covered the following topics: 

  • General IRA overview/estimated funding 
  • Eligibility updates 
  • Program process changes  
  • Cost effectiveness criteria 

Over the next few weeks, NYSERDA will be updating Program materials, webpages, marketing materials and the NY Home Energy Portal (NYHEP) in preparation for the launch of the IRA HEAR offering.  

NYSERDA will be providing Contractor/Hub trainings on the following dates:

In addition to the trainings, CLEAResult will host office hours in late May and throughout June to address additional questions. These dates and information on how to attend will be included in the next program announcement.

NYSERDA and National Grid are offering significantly discounted Building Performance Institute (BPI) training and certifications for qualifying individuals and businesses.

Eligible BPI training and certification pathways offered at a special discounted rate of $150 include:

•            Building Science Principles

•            Building Analyst Technician

•            Building Analyst Professional

•            Multifamily Building Analyst

•            Air Leakage Control Installer

•            Infiltration and Duct Leakage

This special offer is open to individuals who live in:

1) disadvantaged communities and

2) National Grid electric or natural gas utility service territory (Long Island, NYC Metro, or Upstate NY).

Businesses that are Woman-owned, Minority-owned, Indigenous-owned, or Veteran-owned businesses are eligible to have any employees receive training at the discounted rate. Applications can be submitted online .
