BPI 1200 & ASHRAE Standards | December 16, 2015

As the Home Performance industry matures so does the standards that drive it. BPI and ASHRAE have updated standards the HPwES Program is based on and these changes will have an impact on both the way you interact with your customers and their homes.

With the introduction of the BPI 1200 Standard Practice for Basic Analysis of Buildings, it is important to identify the major differences from the soon-to-be retired BPI Building Analysis Standard and how it affects the way you test buildings and provide recommendations. The BPI 1200 Standard incorporates ASHRAE’s 62.2-2013 Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings Standard which modifies the way air-tightness is considered.

These Standards will become effective January 1, 2016. Our goal is to make sure that you are familiar with the requirements of these standards and are prepared to deploy them. This webinar will explore the changes and how these new standards impact your projects.

Topics to be covered in the webinar:

  • Key differences between BPI 1200 and legacy BPI Standards
  • Diagnostic test equipment requirements to comply with the BPI 1200 Standard
  • Identifying the differences in ventilation requirements
  • Program implementation of ASHRAE 62.2-2013
  • Changes to Program forms for data collection

Louis Marrongelli and Earl Hicks, Sr. Technical Analysts from CLEAResult presented this training.

Understanding the Comprehensive Audit Report Webinar | December 3, 2015

Steve Smith, Program Analyst at CLEAResult, and Peter Hoke, Senior Account Manager at CLEAResult, provide overview explanations for a variety of audit reports from several auditing software vendors in this webinar. The energy model reporting tools examined during these session are Cake, Energy Design Systems (Auditor), Optimiser, Snugg Pro, and TREAT. Each of these reports could be generated by participating Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractors that operate in the NYSERDA HPwES Program; the reports are then provided to homeowners.

Prescribing & Selling Air-Sealing; A Contractor’s Guide | November 18, 2015

As a Home Performance Contractor, your air-sealing efforts may be invisible to your customers but the benefits can be substantial in energy savings, comfort and indoor air quality. Communicating the value of these benefits to your customers is just the first step to a successful air-sealing project.

Finding where to cost effectively air-seal and estimate the overall air leakage reduction in a home takes skill, knowledge and experience. Every home you enter is different and brings with it new challenges. Training your auditors and crews to pinpoint air-sealing opportunities in a home is crucial to achieving the results that you are looking for.

Predicting air-sealing savings can be challenging. Application of your building science knowledge and whole house approach in the reduction of air leakage will help result in positive results and customer satisfaction.

Also part of this webinar we discuss how to correctly model air-sealing and insulation measures per the program policy.

Some of the topics covered in the webinar include:

  • How to identify air-sealing opportunities
  • How to effectively communicate the benefits of air-sealing to your customers
  • How to communicate the diagnosed plan to your team
  • How to better meet your projections

Earl Hicks, Senior Technical Analyst, and Ryan Moore, Senior Account Manager, from CLEAResult presented this training.

Accurate Savings Predictions | October 28, 2015

The history of the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program has been built on saving customers energy.

Predictions are given to the customer about how much energy they can expect to save.  To make sure these predictions are realized the home must be well understood and modeled accurately.  Accurately projecting savings requires good data and how much you predict to save your customers is important. This starts during the home assessment and is captured in the model.

Recent evaluation has shown that customers are not seeing the savings they expect post improvement.

This webinar will provide information on how you can bring realization rates and savings predictions into alignment.

Some items covered in this webinar include:

  • Contributing factors to unrealized savings
  • Accuracy in data collection
  • Tightening up true-up activities

Earl Hicks and Robert Grindrod, Senior Technical Analysts, and Ryan Moore and Peter Hoke, Senior Account Managers, from CLEAResult presented this training.
