How to Become a Participating Contractor in the NYSERDA HPwES Program

Please review NYSERDA’s “Becoming a participating Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor” page. This will provide you with an overview of the process. Once you have familiarized yourself with the general program information, please review the Contractor Resource Manual (CRM). This manual is a valuable resource that details the Program in depth, from incentive and financing options to Program software use, etc.

As described in the Contractor Resource Manual, all contractors working in the HPwES Program must become accredited by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and adhere to its standards. Below is the link to the “Become a BPI Goldstar Contractor” page on BPI’s website.

After reviewing the information above, contact the Account Manager for your region; these staff members are well-versed in the HPwES Program and will be able to answer any remaining questions that you may have.

The application and forms can all be found in Contractor Resource Manual.

CRM Section 2: Contractor Participation

The final step is to schedule a meeting with your Account Manager. You will be able to ask any additional questions while your Account Manager confirms your access to the diagnostic equipment needed for conducting residential energy audits.
